Duas for overcoming sadness and depression
O Allah, I ask You for everlasting bliss and coolness of the eye that never ceases. I ask You for contentment after destiny, and a pleasant life after death. I ask You for the delight of gazing upon Your Face, and the longing to meet You, not in hardship causing harm, nor in trials leading astray. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith and make us guides, rightly guided.
O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree concerning me is inevitable, and Your judgment of me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which is with You, that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, the remover of my sadness, and the banisher of my anxiety.
Verily we belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return. O Allah, suffice me with what You have allowed of that which You have forbidden, and enrich me by Your grace, so that I may not need to ask anyone other than You.
O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining One, by Your mercy I seek help. Rectify for me all my affairs and do not entrust me to myself even for the blink of an eye.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.
O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever executed. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name You have named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept in Your knowledge of the unseen, to make the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my anxiety.
O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is inevitable. Your judgment concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries.
O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds and abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor, and that You forgive me and have mercy on me. And if You intend to test Your creation, then take me to Yourself without putting me to the test. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.
