Sadness
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 3931

O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for Your pardon and Your well-being in my religious and worldly affairs, and my family and my property. O Allah, conceal my faults and calm my fears. O Allah, protect me from before me and behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me. And I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being struck from beneath me.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'aluka 'afwaka wa 'afiyataka fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi-'adhimatika an ughtala min tahti.

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is perfect for reciting daily, especially during times of reflection. For those entering their twilight years, it’s particularly poignant as it encompasses seeking Allah's protection, forgiveness, and contentment in all aspects of life – spiritual, personal, familial, and material. Reciting it consistently can bring immense peace and reassurance.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and conviction. Understand that 'Afiyah (well-being) encompasses protection from all harm, both physical and spiritual. Raise your hands as you make dua, as is the practice of the Prophet ﷺ. Make it a habit to recite this morning and evening, seeking Allah's encompassing care.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua seeks the most comprehensive form of well-being ('afiyah) from Allah ﷻ. It covers protection in both this life and the next, encompassing one's faith, worldly affairs, family, and wealth. It's a powerful supplication for safety from harm and peace from anxieties, especially relevant as one ages and may face greater vulnerability.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirah. Allahumma inni as'aluka 'afwaka wa 'afiyataka fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yamini wa 'an shimali wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi-'adhimatika an ughtala min tahti.'
