Duas for overcoming sadness and depression
O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to one of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept exclusively to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, to make the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxiety.
O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the heavy burden of debt and the overpowering of men.
O Allah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your female slave. My forelock is in Your Hand. Your command over me is forever executed. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or taught to anyone from Your Ummah, or sent down in Your Book, or that You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my grief, and a reliever of my anxiety.
O Allah, indeed I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever enacted. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to any of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or that You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxieties.
O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree concerning me is ever inescapable, and Your judgment of me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone among Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept with You in the knowledge of the unseen. I ask that You make the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxieties.
O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your decree concerning me is just. O Turner of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion.
O Allah, grant us a happy life, a death of martyrdom, and a return (to You) without disgrace or scandal. O Allah, do not leave any sin for us except that You forgive it, nor any worry except that You relieve it, nor any debt except that You repay it, nor any sick person except that You heal him, nor any afflicted person except that You grant him well-being, nor any dead person except that You have mercy upon him, nor any need for which You are pleased and which is good for us, except that You fulfill it, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
Truly, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, write for me the reward (for this loss) with You, and grant me a good replacement for the one who has departed.
Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. O Allah, reward me in my calamity and compensate me with something better than it.
O Allah, I hope in Your mercy, so do not entrust me to my own self for even the blink of an eye, and set all my affairs right for me. There is no god but You.
