O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to one of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept exclusively to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, to make the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxiety.
Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaibi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabii'a qalbii, wa nuura sadrii, wa jalaa'a huznii, wa dhahaba hammii.

The narration states that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was once passing by a mosque. He saw a man praying and supplicating, saying: 'O Allah, I ask You, O Allah, the One, the Self-Sufficient Master, Who was not begotten and begat not, and there is none like unto Him, I ask You by Your mercy which encompasses all things, that I may attain to the forgiveness of sins, that I may have strength to overcome all sins, that I may gain the paradise and be safe from the punishment of the hellfire.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He has asked Allah by His Greatest Name, by which when He is asked, He gives, and when He is called upon, He answers.' Then another man came and prayed, and he said: 'O Allah, I ask You by my need for You, and my need for Your blessings, and my need for taking advantage of all the good that is with You, and my strength in what You possess.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'You have asked Allah by His Name by which when He is asked, He gives, and when He is called upon, He answers.' Then the Prophet ﷺ said: 'There are three types of people to whom Allah responds: the fasting person until he breaks his fast, the oppressed person and his supplication will be raised above the clouds, and the Hajj pilgrim until his Hajj is completed.' (This section does not directly contain the requested dua, however, the following hadith is the one intended for the context of the dua.) Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet ﷺ said, "No servant is afflicted with sadness, grief, and he says: 'O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to one of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept exclusively to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which You possess, to make the Quran the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my anxiety,' except that Allah will remove his sadness and replace his grief with joy." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! Should we learn these words?" He said: "Yes, indeed! It is recommended for everyone who hears them after me."
