Rain
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 1029

اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا

O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.

Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna

When to Read

This dua is specifically recited during times of drought when the community is in dire need of rain. It can be made individually or collectively, especially when a formal prayer for rain (Salat al-Istisqa) is performed or when conditions necessitate seeking Allah's immediate help.

How to Read

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when seeking rain, would raise his hands and make this supplication multiple times. It is recommended to face the Qiblah, raise hands, and repeat the dua with earnestness and conviction, reflecting on Allah's power and mercy. It is also encouraged to combine this with seeking forgiveness for sins, as they can be a cause of withholding blessings.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking rain is a direct act of reliance on Allah (Tawakkul). Abundant rain revitalizes the land, brings forth sustenance, and eases the hardships faced by the people, including those struggling with debt. The Prophet ﷺ's supplication for rain was a profound expression of his responsibility towards his Ummah, seeking relief for their physical and economic well-being. The blessing of rain can indirectly alleviate debt burdens by enabling agricultural productivity and economic recovery.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man entered the Masjid (mosque) on Friday and the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the sermon. The man said, "O Allah's Messenger! Our wealth has been destroyed (due to drought) and our children are hungry, so please ask Allah to give us rain." The Prophet ﷺ raised his hands and said: "Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna." (O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.) Sahih al-Bukhari 1029.
