اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا ، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا ، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This powerful and direct supplication is made when the community is experiencing a severe drought and the land is parched, leading to hardship and potentially the spread of sickness due to lack of clean water and sustenance. It is a communal plea for Allah's mercy to alleviate the suffering caused by the absence of rain.
How to Read
This dua is best recited when the community gathers for the special prayer for rain (Salat al-Istisqa). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to raise our hands in supplication during this prayer. While this specific phrasing is from the Istisqa prayer, the principle of seeking Allah's aid with sincerity and repetition applies in any time of need, especially when facing widespread hardship like sickness linked to drought.
Virtues & Benefits
The primary benefit is seeking Allah's immediate mercy and relief during times of drought and hardship. Rain is a source of life, cleansing, and sustenance. By earnestly calling upon Allah in this manner, we are acknowledging our complete dependence on Him and His power to bestow His blessings. The repetition emphasizes the earnestness and desperation of the supplication, reflecting the seriousness of the situation.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The people suffered from a drought during the time of the Prophet (ﷺ), while he was delivering a sermon. So, a man stood up and said, 'O Allah's Messenger! Our wealth has been destroyed and our children are hungry, so please invoke Allah for us.' So, the Prophet (ﷺ) raised both his hands and said, 'O Allah! Give us rain, O Allah! Give us rain, O Allah! Give us rain.' Sahih al-Bukhari 1026.
