When to Read
This supplication is made when the community is experiencing drought and a dire need for rain. While there isn't a specific dua *solely* for cleansing graves with rain, the general dua for rain, like the one taught by the Prophet ﷺ, is recited with the intention that Allah sends His mercy, which includes the rain that cleanses the earth and, by extension, the graves resting within it. How to Read
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to raise our hands when supplicating for rain, turning our backs towards the Qiblah (direction of prayer) and raising them until we could see the whiteness of our armpits. This gesture signifies earnestness and reliance on Allah. It's recommended to repeat the supplication three times. The prayer is directed to Allah alone, with sincere intention and full trust in His response.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to supplicate for rain when there was a drought, and he would raise his hands and supplicate, and turn his back towards the Qiblah, and raise his hands so high that one could see the whiteness of his armpits. He would repeat the words: 'Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna' (O Allah, grant us rain, O Allah, grant us rain). When it rained, he would say: 'It is Allah's blessing and mercy.' He would say: 'It is with Allah's bounty and mercy.' And he would have the rain water on his body.
