اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is specifically recited during times of drought and intense need for rain. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would perform the Istisqa (prayer for rain) and make this supplication when the land was parched and people and animals were suffering from thirst. It's a plea directly to Allah for His mercy to bring forth the much-needed precipitation.
How to Read
This is a straightforward and earnest plea. It's often recited after the Istisqa prayer, or even when observing signs of drought and dryness. The repetition emphasizes the urgency and deep need of the supplicant. It's recommended to raise one's hands during the dua, a practice commonly observed by the Prophet ﷺ when making supplication.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through sincere dua acknowledges our utter dependence on Allah for even the most basic necessities of life. It's an act of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) as we turn to Him alone for provision. Rain is a blessing (rahmah) from Allah, which revives the land, sustains life, and is crucial for the survival of His creation. The Prophet's ﷺ habit of making dua for rain highlights its importance and our reliance on Allah's mercy.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: During the time of the Prophet (ﷺ), a drought struck the city. While the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the Friday sermon, a Bedouin came and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, our property is destroyed and our children are hungry. Pray to Allah for us.' So the Prophet (ﷺ) raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.' He then said, 'O Allah, make it a rain that revives the land and makes the plants grow, and that benefits your servants.'
