اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is particularly relevant when the land is dry and the animals are suffering from thirst due to lack of rain. It can be recited individually or collectively by a community facing such hardship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often pray for rain in times of drought, and this simple yet profound dua reflects that practice.
How to Read
This dua involves raising one's hands in supplication, a practice often followed by the Prophet ﷺ when seeking rain. It's recommended to recite it with sincerity, humility, and a sincere hope that Allah (Exalted is He) will respond. It can be repeated multiple times to emphasize the urgency of the need.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking Allah's mercy for rain is a recognition of our absolute dependence on Him for all provisions, including water. Animals are a trust from Allah, and their well-being is our responsibility. By praying for rain to alleviate their thirst, we fulfill a part of this trust and earn Allah's pleasure. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that 'There is no Muslim who plants something or grows something and then a bird or a human or an animal eats from it, but it is a charity for him.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6002). Ensuring the survival of animals through seeking rain is a profound act of compassion and charity.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the drought of the period between the two Fridays, so Allah's Messenger ﷺ raised his hands. We did not know what he was supplicating for. He said: 'O Allah, grant us rain!' He said this three times. He said: 'Verily, Allah is able to do whatever He wills.' Then it began to rain, and they did not go to their homes until the ground was wet. Then we said: 'O Allah's Messenger ﷺ! Should we ask Allah to make it stop?' He said: 'O Allah, around us and not on us.' Then it rained around them and not on them. He said: 'We have been given rain because of the blessings of Allah and His Mercy.'
