Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The people complained to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) about the drought, the lack of rain. So while the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the Khutbah on a Friday, (Allah's Messenger for the first time) requested Allah to grant them rain, saying: 'O Allah, grant us rain.' He repeated it three times. 'Anas said: We looked up at the sky and there was nothing. Then he said: 'O Allah, grant us rain.' He repeated it three times. 'Anas said: We looked up at the sky and there was nothing. Then he said: 'O Allah, grant us rain.' He repeated it three times. 'Anas said: Then clouds gathered like mountains. The Prophet (ﷺ) laughed, and he was so pleased that we could see his molars. He then said: 'Witchcraft is not yet over!' (Or: 'It is not beyond the possibility of witchcraft!') He then said: 'Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stood up and we stood up with him and prayed two Rakat. He supplicated for rain for six days and then on the seventh day, it rained a downpour and the people were drenched. Then Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: 'Seek your Lord's forgiveness, for He is Oft-Forgiving, (and) He said: 'I have said (in the past): Ask (pray to) your Lord for forgiveness, verily He is Ever All-Forgiving, He will send you down from the rain. And (He) will help you with wealth and children, and will provide you with gardens and provide you with rivers (Surah Nuh 10-12).' Sahih al-Bukhari 1014
