اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is specifically recited during times of drought when seeking Allah's mercy for rain. In this context, we extend this heartfelt plea, asking Allah not only for physical sustenance through rain but also for the release of those imprisoned for their beliefs – the prisoners of conscience. It is a comprehensive supplication for relief, both material and spiritual, acknowledging that true freedom and well-being come from Allah alone.
How to Read
It is recommended to make this dua with sincerity and a humble heart. Facing the Qiblah (direction of prayer) and raising one's hands can be part of the etiquette. Repeating the plea three times, as done by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, emphasizes the urgency and earnestness of the supplication. It is also beneficial to combine this dua with Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) and other supplications for the oppressed.
Virtues & Benefits
The primary benefit of this dua is seeking Allah's immediate response to a pressing need – rain, which is a sign of Allah's mercy and a source of life. By connecting this request for rain to the release of prisoners of conscience, we align our supplication with the broader Islamic principle of compassion for the oppressed and the pursuit of justice. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ's repetition of the plea highlights its significance in seeking Allah's intervention during times of hardship. The Quran states, "And He it is who sends the winds as bearers of good tidings preceding His mercy, and We send down from the sky, pure water - That We may give life thereby to a lifeless land and provide it as drink to what We have created of cattle and masses of people." (Al-Furqan 25:48-49).

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ during the time of fighting with the enemy. So he said: "(O Allah,) send down upon them rain (for a duration) like the rain of the `Ad", and they were given rain for thirteen days. Anas added: So Allah's Messenger ﷺ addressed them and said: "O people, you have said that drought has come because of the lack of rain, but you have been given rain just as the people of `Ad were given rain. And now you say: 'This rain is due to the blessings of the sea.'" (Sahih al-Bukhari 1006)
