اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This specific supplication is made during the *Salat al-Istisqa* (Prayer for Rain), which the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ led when the land was parched and people were suffering from drought. It is also appropriate to make this general plea for rain whenever there is a need, especially during times of severe drought that impact livelihoods and the ability of people to meet their obligations, including debt.
How to Read
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ led this prayer by raising his hands towards the sky and making this dua. When reciting this, one should face the Qiblah, raise their hands, and implore Allah with sincerity and humility. It's also beneficial to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ by turning one's cloak inside out after the prayer as a symbolic gesture of turning towards Allah's mercy and seeking a change in condition. This dua is particularly potent when coupled with sincere repentance and seeking forgiveness for sins, as sins can be a barrier to Allah's blessings.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through this dua is a direct manifestation of *Tawakkul* (reliance on Allah). The suffering caused by drought can extend to people's inability to repay debts, affecting both the debtor and the creditor. By invoking Allah's mercy for rain, we are indirectly seeking a means for people to recover economically and fulfill their financial responsibilities. The act of praying for rain itself is a communal act of worship that strengthens faith and reminds us of our dependence on Allah for all provisions, including the water that sustains life and enables productivity.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Prophet (ﷺ) performed the prayer for rain. He stood and delivered a sermon, then he prayed two rak'ahs, turning his cloak inside out... The people said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you prayed for rain and turned your cloak inside out.' He said: 'Indeed, that is one of the signs of relying on Allah, the Mighty and Sublime.'"
