Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 1005

اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا

"O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain."

Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna

When to Read

This dua is recited during a time of drought or when the land is parched and in need of rain. It's a direct supplication to Allah for His mercy to manifest as life-giving water.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, raising your hands as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did when supplicating for rain. It is recommended to repeat it three times for emphasis, showing our earnest need for Allah's provision. This act of seeking rain is also an opportunity for introspection, recognizing our dependence on Allah for all sustenance.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking rain through dua is a manifestation of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). It reminds us that rain is not just a physical phenomenon but a mercy from Allah, essential for life, agriculture, and the overall well-being of creation. It fosters humility and gratitude for Allah's blessings. The Quran states: 'And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings preceding His mercy, and We send down from the heavens, purifying water' (Al-Furqan 25:48).

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "A man entered the Masjid on Friday (and the Prophet ﷺ was on the pulpit) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the wealth has been destroyed and the families are hungry, so supplicate to Allah for us.' So he supplicated, and we supplicated with him. He raised his hands until I saw the whiteness of his armpits. Then he turned to us and descended, and prayed two Rakat and then addressed the people. He said: 'O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.'" (Sahih al-Bukhari 1005)
