Allah (Exalted is He) says in the Quran: 'And He it is who sends the winds as glad tidings before His mercy, until, when they have carried clouds heavy [with water], We drive them to a dead land and bring rain to it, and We bring forth all kinds of fruits from it. Thus will We bring forth the dead, that perhaps you may be mindful.' (Al-A'raf 7:57). This verse connects rain with the bringing forth of life and fruits, mirroring the desire for conception and the nurturing of a healthy pregnancy. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: 'While the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the Friday sermon, the Bedouins came to him and said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Our property has been destroyed and our families are hungry. Please ask Allah to give us rain.' So, the Prophet ﷺ raised his hands and said, 'Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.' (O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!). We then witnessed an equal amount of clouds and rain, and by Allah's Grace, we were not able to reach our homes.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1013). The narration continues to describe how the rain was so abundant that people struggled to return home, and then, after a week, the situation reversed due to excessive rain, prompting another dua from the Prophet ﷺ to disperse the clouds.
