اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا.
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.
When to Read
This dua is specifically recited during times of drought or when rain is desperately needed. It's a direct plea to Allah for His mercy and provision for the land and its people. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would say this three times when making this specific supplication.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart, acknowledging Allah's sole power to bring forth rain. It is recommended to raise your hands while making this supplication. The repetition of 'Allahumma aghithna' three times emphasizes the urgency and earnestness of the request, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through sincere dua is a profound act of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). It reminds us that sustenance and provision are entirely from Him. The Quran states: 'And it is He who sends down rain after they have despaired and spreads His mercy. And He is the Concealing, the Praiseworthy' (Ash-Shura 42:28). This dua is not just for rain, but for Allah's mercy to encompass us, bringing life back to the barren land and well-being to its inhabitants.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man entered the mosque on Friday and the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the Khutbah. The man stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the animals are dying and the roads are cut off, so pray to Allah to give us rain.' The Prophet (ﷺ) raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.' Then he said: 'O Allah, make it a rain of blessing and not a destructive flood.' Then he said: '...and do not make us despair of Your bounty.'
