اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is specifically recited when there is a need for rain, during a drought, or when the land is parched and people are suffering from lack of water. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would raise his hands and make this plea to Allah.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. It is recommended to raise your hands as the Prophet ﷺ did when supplicating for rain. It is also a Sunnah to turn the cloak inside out after this supplication, though the primary focus should be on the sincere dua itself.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through dua is a direct act of worship and reliance on Allah. It acknowledges our complete dependence on Him for sustenance. The Prophet's ﷺ practice of making this dua highlights its importance and the mercy of Allah, who responds to the sincere pleas of His creation. It also reminds us to reflect on the blessings of water and to be grateful for Allah's provisions.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "While the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the Khutbah on Friday, a man stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the camels and the sheep are perishing (due to drought).' The Prophet ﷺ raised his hands and said: 'Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna' (O Allah, grant us rain, O Allah, grant us rain, O Allah, grant us rain)." Sahih al-Bukhari 1025.
