اَللّٰهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اَللّٰهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اَللّٰهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This powerful supplication is made during times of drought, when the earth is parched and the need for rain is dire. Beyond the immediate need for rain, it can also be elevated with the intention of seeking Allah's mercy for the release of unjustly imprisoned believers. The essence of the dua is seeking Allah's relief and assistance, which encompasses all forms of hardship and suffering, including the captivity of our brothers and sisters.
How to Read
This dua should be recited with sincerity and conviction, raising one's hands in supplication as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is beneficial to repeat it multiple times, emphasizing the earnest plea for Allah's response. When intending it for the release of prisoners, one can add specific phrases seeking their liberation while making this rain dua, or make it as a separate but related supplication during the same period of seeking Allah's grace for rain.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through dua is a direct way of connecting with Allah and acknowledging our utter dependence on Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself would pray for rain when it was scarce, demonstrating its importance. This act not only brings physical relief through rain but also spiritual purification and closeness to our Creator. Furthermore, remembering imprisoned believers in our supplications fosters a sense of brotherhood and shared struggle, earning Allah's pleasure and potentially hastening their release through His divine intervention.
