It is recommended to make this supplication with sincerity, humility, and certainty that Allah is the only one who can bring relief. Repeating it multiple times, as shown in the hadith, emphasizes the urgency and earnestness of the request.

It is a way to alleviate hardship for oneself, one's community, and all living beings. The blessings of rain are immense, bringing life back to the earth, nourishing crops, and purifying the environment.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the drought, the lack of rain during the period of (his Caliphate) before the (Islamic) period before his Caliphate. So, Allah's Messenger ﷺ led (them) in a prayer in which he supplicated for rain. He said: 'O Allah, (give) water to drink to Your slaves and Your animals and Your creatures, and make Your mercy manifest, and let it be a year of drought.' He said: 'He did not mention a year of drought.' Then he turned his face to the people and said: 'O Allah, give water to drink to Your slaves and Your animals and Your creatures, and let Your mercy manifest, and let it be a year of plenty and abundance and fertility. Allah's Messenger ﷺ raised his hands so high that I saw the whiteness of his armpits. After the prayer, he turned around and addressed us, saying: 'Allah bears witness that I am Allah's servant.' Then he would say: 'Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna' (O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain).
