اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is specifically recited when there is a need for rain, particularly during prolonged dry spells that threaten crops, livestock, and the general well-being of the community. It's a direct plea to Allah for His mercy and provision.
How to Read
This dua is a simple and direct supplication. It was a common practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to repeat such earnest requests three times when making dua, showing his sincerity and deep reliance on Allah. It is best recited with humility, raising one's hands (as was the Sunnah in seeking rain), facing the Qiblah, and with a sincere heart convinced of Allah's ability to answer.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through this dua is seeking Allah's mercy and provision for our sustenance. Rain is a blessing that revitalizes the earth, enables growth for crops, and sustains life. By asking Allah for rain, we acknowledge our dependence on Him for all our needs, from the smallest grain to the largest harvest. It reminds us that prosperity and well-being are ultimately from Allah (Al-Mighty, Al-Razzaq - The Provider).

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) was addressing the people, when he mentioned the drought and the need for rain. He said: 'O Allah, grant us rain, grant us rain, grant us rain.' Anas added: 'There was nothing of cloud in the sky.' So the Prophet (ﷺ) stood up and people stood up with him. He then supplicated: 'O Allah, send us rain.' He then turned towards the Qiblah, raising his hands and saying: 'O Allah, around us and not upon us.' So the clouds gathered and the rain began to fall. He said: 'Thank Allah.' So Allah sent them rain. (Sahih al-Bukhari 1014. Similar narration in Sahih Muslim 897.)
