اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is specifically recited during times of drought or when rain is needed, particularly when the earth is parched and new seeds have been sown, requiring moisture for germination and growth. It's a direct plea to Allah for His mercy and provision.
How to Read
This is a straightforward plea addressed directly to Allah. While the hadith mentions the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ repeating it three times in a specific instance, the core etiquette includes raising one's hands in supplication (as was his practice during istisqa, the prayer for rain), facing the Qiblah, and doing so with sincerity and certainty that Allah is the only one who can bring the rain. It is best recited with a humble heart, acknowledging our complete reliance on Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
The primary benefit is seeking Allah's mercy and provision. Rain is a life-giving blessing, essential for agriculture, sustenance, and the general well-being of creation. By making this dua, we acknowledge Allah as Ar-Razzaq (The Provider) and Al-Mannan (The Bestower of Blessings). The repetition emphasizes the urgency and deep need for Allah's intervention, reflecting the Prophet's own practice when faced with such necessity.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "A man entered the Masjid (the Prophet's mosque) from the gate of a man called Biishr on that day. Allah's Messenger ﷺ was delivering a sermon on a Friday. That man stood up and said: 'O Allah's Messenger, the wealth has been destroyed and the roads are blocked, so we cannot reach you. Ask Allah for us to give us rain.' So Allah's Messenger ﷺ raised both his hands and said: 'O Allah, give us rain. O Allah, give us rain. O Allah, give us rain.' He added: 'By Allah, we do not have the ability in the sky to make a cloud.' Then he said: 'O Allah, rain upon us the rain of blessing and not the rain of destruction, nor the rain of drowning. O Allah, rain upon the grazing land.' So the rain poured, and it rained from Friday to Friday. The man from Biishr came (again) and said: 'O Allah's Messenger, the houses have collapsed (due to excessive rain) and the cattle are drowning.' So Allah's Messenger ﷺ stood up and said: 'O Allah, around us and not on us. O Allah, (rain) on the plateaus and the mountains and the river valleys.' So the clouds dispersed and the rain stopped and they went out walking in the sun.'
