اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This supplication is made when the land is dry, the crops are wilting, and the earth is parched, especially when new seeds have been sown and are in desperate need of water to germinate and grow. It is a plea to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) to send down His mercy in the form of rain, which is vital for agriculture and the sustenance of life. The repetition of the plea emphasizes the urgency and the deep reliance on Allah's power.
How to Read
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would raise his hands in supplication during the istisqa' (prayer for rain) salah, often turning his back to the Qiblah and sometimes even turning his cloak inside out as a sign of humility and desperation before Allah. While this specific hadith describes a communal prayer setting, the principle of raising hands in sincere dua applies. Recite this dua with a sincere heart, focusing on your need for Allah's mercy, and acknowledging that rain is solely in His control. It's best recited with conviction and hope, seeking Allah's blessings for your sown seeds to sprout and flourish.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain is not just about agriculture; it is a profound act of acknowledging Allah's sovereignty over all creation. The Quran states: 'It is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby growth of all kinds...' (Surah Al-An'am 6:99). This dua, when offered with faith and sincerity, can bring Allah's mercy, leading to the germination of seeds, the growth of crops, and the revival of the land. It is a tangible way to seek sustenance and well-being for ourselves and our communities, demonstrating our dependence on the One who provides all blessings.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'A man entered the Masjid on a Friday and the Prophet (peace be upon him) was delivering the Khutbah. The man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the camels are perishing, the roads are blocked, and the children are hungry.' So the Prophet (peace be upon him) raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, grant us rain, O Allah, grant us rain, O Allah, grant us rain.' He did not mention anything about the camels or the roads. Then he said: 'O Allah, grant us rain, and make it a rain of blessing, and a rain that revives the earth and its inhabitants, and a rain that reaches us abundantly, not to destroy us.' Then he descended from the Minbar and prayed two rak'ahs.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1011)
