Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, 'While the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the Friday sermon, the people standing asked him to bring down rain and requested him to invoke Allah for rain. So, the Prophet (ﷺ) invoked Allah for rain. It was Friday. On the next Friday, a Friday it was, the rain stopped, and the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the sermon when the people standing asked him to invoke Allah for rain. He said, 'O Allah, around us and not on us.' So the clouds dispersed, and the rain came down, and it rained for the following week. The next Friday, the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the sermon and the people praised him for the rain. He said, 'O Allah, let it be on the hills and not on the rocks.' So the rain came down. The next Friday, the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the sermon and the people asked him to invoke Allah for rain. He said, 'O Allah, around us and not on us.' He said it three times. 'Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.' (O Allah, grant us rain, grant us rain, grant us rain).'
