اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is recited during the congregational prayer for rain (Salatul Istisqa), or when observing signs of drought and the need for rain. While the primary dua is for rain itself, the intention behind seeking Allah's blessing can encompass all aspects of life, including a successful marriage and family. When the rain comes as a blessing from Allah after such supplication, it symbolizes provision and fertility, mirroring the desired abundance and growth in one's family life.
How to Read
This dua is a direct supplication to Allah. It is recommended to raise one's hands while reciting it, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The repetition of 'aghithna' (grant us rain) emphasizes the urgency and sincerity of the need. The context of Salatul Istisqa often involves turning to Allah with humility, seeking forgiveness, and showing submission, which are all principles that contribute to a blessed marriage and family.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain from Allah is a direct act of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) and acknowledgment of His power over all creation. The blessings of rain are manifold: it brings life to the earth, sustains crops and livestock, and purifies the environment. By extension, when such a vital blessing is granted after sincere dua, it can symbolize Allah's acceptance and His bestowal of barakah (blessing and abundance) upon the supplicant's life, including their marriage and family. A peaceful and prosperous family life is a significant blessing from Allah, and seeking rain can be an indirect way of asking for His overall mercy and provision.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the drought, the lack of rain. So while the Prophet ﷺ was delivering his sermon on the pulpit, he ﷺ said: 'O Allah, let your clouds rain upon us, let your clouds rain upon us, let your clouds rain upon us.' He ﷺ then said: 'O Allah, grant us rain, grant us rain, grant us rain.' I think he said: 'On the mountains and the hills, and the places where plants grow and the riverbeds.' Anas added: So the sky was covered with clouds, and it rained, and the rain was heavy. We went out to find the streams flowing. And it rained until the next Friday. Then the same man stood up on the same Friday, and he was standing on the same pulpit, and the Prophet ﷺ was laughing. He said: 'O Allah, around us and not on us.' So the clouds dispersed from around Al-Madinah and rained neither on us nor on the land around us. The people then said to me: 'Ask Allah's Messenger ﷺ to pray for rain for us.' So I said: 'O Allah's Messenger ﷺ, ask Allah to make it rain for us.' He ﷺ raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, bring us rain, bring us rain, bring us rain.' He ﷺ said: 'O Allah, make it a source of mercy and not of destruction.' Then he said: 'O Allah, let it rain on the pastures and the hills and the mountains and the valleys and the roots of the trees and remove the drought from the people, and from the cattle.' Anas added: The rain poured down, and it rained until the people began to talk about the abundance of rain. (Sahih al-Bukhari 1028, Sahih Muslim 897)
