اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This simple, powerful dua is recited during times of drought or when rain is needed for crops and general well-being. It's particularly relevant when the land is dry and people are experiencing hardship due to lack of water. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would also turn to this supplication when facing such needs, highlighting its importance.
How to Read
This dua is best recited with sincerity and humility, lifting one's hands in supplication as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ. It should be said with conviction, believing that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has the power to send down His blessings. It can be repeated multiple times, and it's also beneficial to follow it up with other related duas for rain and provision, drawing from the Sunnah.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through dua is a direct act of reliance on Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). It reminds us that all sustenance and blessings come from Him alone. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this specific phrasing, demonstrating its significance in seeking Allah's mercy during times of need. By making dua, we acknowledge our dependence on our Creator and strengthen our connection with Him, knowing that He is Al-Ghaffar (The Ever-Forgiving) and Ar-Rahman (The Most Gracious). This act can also bring relief from hardship and ensure the prosperity of the land, a blessing from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for His believing servants.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'A man entered the Masjid on Friday while the Prophet (peace be upon him) was delivering the Khutbah. The man stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the wealth has been destroyed and the family is hungry, so pray to Allah for us." So he supplicated with them.' Anas added: 'And we did not see the sky with any trace of cloud. Then the man stood up again and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the wealth has been destroyed and the family is hungry, so pray to Allah for us." So he supplicated with them. He said: 'And we did not see the sky with any trace of cloud.' The narrator said: 'Then he (the Prophet ﷺ) laughed, and he mentioned that he had mentioned a prayer for rain. He then said: "O Allah, bring us rain that will suffice us." He said: 'So the sky became cloudy and rained until the rain came down in torrents from mosque roofs. Then the sky cleared, and the sun shone. And the man stood up for the third time, and he was probably thanking him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'O Allah, around us and not on us.' He said: 'So the clouds dispersed from around Medina and it rained around it.' Sahih al-Bukhari 1014
