اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا.
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.
When to Read
This supplication is recited during the Khutbah (sermon) of the Istisqa' prayer, which is the prayer for rain. However, the sentiment and the act of seeking Allah's help through dua can be directed towards ensuring favorable conditions for significant life events, like a wedding. On the day of a wedding, if the weather is a concern, one can make sincere supplication for it to be blessed with pleasant weather, remembering that seeking rain is a direct call to Allah for His mercy and provision. The Prophet ﷺ would supplicate like this when people were in need of rain.
How to Read
This dua is a direct plea for rain, emphasizing earnestness through repetition. When seeking blessings for a wedding day, the intention is to ask Allah for the best possible circumstances, including favorable weather. One can make this dua with raised hands, as the Prophet ﷺ did during the Istisqa' prayer, reflecting deep reliance and hope in Allah's response. It should be made with sincerity, certainty that Allah is All-Hearing, and a heart full of hope.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through dua is a recognition of Allah's absolute power over all creation, including the weather. It is a means of receiving Allah's mercy, which is essential for life and prosperity. Just as rain sustains crops and life, seeking Allah's blessing for a wedding day through sincere dua invites His barakah (blessing) and divine favor upon the union, ensuring it is built on a foundation of faith and reliance on Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "The most excellent worship is dua." (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3371 - Hasan Ghareeb). By seeking His help for a wedding, we are essentially asking for His divine orchestration of the event, hoping for ease, joy, and harmony.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) was asked to supplicate to Allah for rain during the month of Ramadan, and he said, "(It is) Allah only." Then he supplicated for rain and the clouds gathered and it rained. He was asked again, and he supplicated for rain, and the clouds gathered and it rained. He was asked again, and he supplicated for rain, and the clouds gathered and it rained. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "O Allah, let it rain around us and not upon us." So the clouds dispersed from over Medina and rained around it. (Sahih al-Bukhari 1014)
