Narrated Anas bin Malik: While the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the Khutba on a Friday, a man stood up and said, "O Allah's Messenger! Our horses and sheep have perished, so invoke Allah to bless us with rain." The Prophet (ﷺ) raised his hands and said, > **Arabic:** اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا > **Translation:** "O Allah, give us rain! O Allah, give us rain! O Allah, give us rain!" > **Transliteration:** *Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna* Anas added, "By Allah, there were no clouds in the sky and there was no house or building between us and Sal' mountain. Then a cloud like a shield appeared from behind it and when it came in the middle of the sky, it spread and then rained. By Allah! We did not see the sun for six days. Then on the next Friday, a man entered through that (same) gate, and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was delivering the Khutba. The man said, "O Allah's Messenger! Our houses have collapsed and our ways have been cut off, so invoke Allah to withhold it (rain) from us." The Prophet (ﷺ) raised his hands and said, > **Arabic:** اللَّهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلاَ عَلَيْنَا اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى الآكَامِ وَالظِّرَابِ وَبُطُونِ الأَوْدِيَةِ وَمَنَابِتِ الشَّجَرِ > **Translation:** "O Allah, let it rain around us and not upon us. O Allah, (let it be) on the hillocks and the mountains, and in the valleys and on the places where trees grow." > **Transliteration:** *Allahumma hawalaina wa la 'alaina. Allahumma 'alal-akami waz-zirabi, wa butunil-awdiyati, wa manabitish-shajari.* So the rain stopped and we came out walking in the sun. — Sahih al-Bukhari 1017
