اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا.
O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.
When to Read
This supplication is made during times of drought or when seeking relief and blessings. It's particularly potent when the need for rain is dire, mirroring how we should earnestly seek Allah's help in all our needs, including spiritual nourishment.
How to Read
Recite this earnest plea with a sincere heart, raising your hands as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did when making du'a for rain. Face the Qiblah, acknowledge your dependence on Allah, and be fully present in your supplication. Repeating it three times, as mentioned in the hadith, amplifies the earnestness of the request.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through du'a is a direct manifestation of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). Just as rain brings life to the earth, spiritual 'rain' – the blessings and knowledge from Allah – brings life to our hearts and minds. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that Allah is pleased when His servants ask Him for their needs. Rain is a mercy from Allah, and asking for it with sincerity can bring about that mercy, leading to abundance and well-being, which indirectly supports our pursuit of knowledge by providing a stable environment and a clear mind.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: While the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the sermon on Friday, a man stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the rain has failed us and the children are hungry.' So he supplicated and the sun appeared, and then on the next Friday while the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the sermon, a man stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the horses and the camels have perished (due to lack of rain).' So he supplicated and said: 'O Allah, around us and not on us, O Allah (bring rain) on the hills, on the mountains, on the valleys, on the places where plants grow.' So the rain came down and they enjoyed the rain for the next Friday. A man stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we ask Allah to let it rain upon the wives and the slaves?' The Prophet ﷺ laughed and his incisors were visible and said: 'Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1013)
