Narrated Anas: When the Prophet ﷺ was asked to invoke Allah to send rain for the Muslims, he said, 'You will not be sent rain, but Allah will send it.' Then the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Allah, let there be no hardship.' (in another version) 'Allah, bring it down upon the hills and mountains, the shrubs and ravines.' Anas said, 'So the rain did not come, but the weather changed.' (And the narrator mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ smiled). 'Allah, let there be no hardship.' He said it three times. Then he prayed, 'Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.' (O Allah, grant us rain). He said, 'Allah, let there be comfort.' He was not able to indicate with his hand except the thumb and forefinger, and the rest of the people were looking at the sky and waiting for the rain.
