اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is a direct supplication made by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during a drought. It is particularly relevant when the land is dry, crops are withering, and people and animals are suffering from lack of water. It can be recited during the congregational prayer for rain (Salat al-Istisqa) or individually when observing the signs of drought.
How to Read
This is a simple yet profound plea. It involves raising one's hands, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ when making dua for rain, and repeating the request earnestly. The sincerity and conviction in one's heart are paramount. It is also recommended to seek forgiveness for sins beforehand, as drought can sometimes be a consequence of disobedience.
Virtues & Benefits
The recitation of this dua signifies reliance on Allah (Tawakkul) and acknowledges that He alone is the Provider of sustenance and the Controller of all natural phenomena. The Prophet's ﷺ repetition of the plea emphasizes the urgency and necessity of rain for the survival of life. Rain is a mercy from Allah, bringing life to barren lands, nourishing crops, and sustaining His creation. The Quran reminds us of this: 'And We send down from the sky, water – and We give it to you to drink, and the trees – and the vegetation; so that you may be satisfied.' (Surah Al-Hijr 82:22)

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the drought, the lack of rain. So, while the Prophet ﷺ was delivering his Khutbah on a Friday, he supplicated: 'O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain.' Sahih al-Bukhari 1014
