اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This supplication is recited when there is a need for rain, a time when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to turn to Allah with earnestness. As the rain falls, we can connect this physical blessing with the spiritual freedom of those imprisoned, making dua for their release and comfort, asking Allah to shower His mercy upon them just as He showers His mercy upon the earth with rain.
How to Read
Recite this supplication with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands as the Prophet ﷺ would do when asking for rain. Imagine the blessings of the rain descending, and with that same earnestness, ask Allah to open the doors of freedom for all those held captive, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually. It is a moment to reflect on our own blessings and extend our hope for others.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain during a drought is a direct act of reliance on Allah, acknowledging His power over all provisions. The Prophet's ﷺ repetition of 'Allahumma aghithna' emphasizes the urgency and importance of this supplication. By extending this request to include the release of prisoners, we broaden our dua to encompass compassion and justice, seeking Allah's mercy for all those suffering hardship, drawing parallels between the quenching of thirst and the liberation from confinement.

Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when it was the time of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) sermon, if there was a drought, he would say: 'O Allah, give us rain. O Allah, give us rain. O Allah, give us rain.' Then he would say, 'O Allah, provide for us, for You are the best of providers.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1004)
