Rain
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1174

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا غَيْثًا مُغِيثًا هَنِيئًا مَرِيئًا غَيْرَ ضَارٍّ نَافِعًا غَيْرَ ضَارٍّ

O Allah, make it a helpful, pleasant, and beneficial rain, not harmful.

Allahumma ij'alha ghaythan mughithan hani'an mari'an ghayra dharin nafi'an ghayra dharin

When to Read

This dua is particularly relevant when rain is falling, especially if it's heavy and might hinder the sensitive process of a funeral procession and burial. It's a way to ask Allah to temper the weather for ease and comfort during a difficult time. You might recite it as the clouds gather or as the rain begins, with the intention of seeking Allah's mercy for the deceased and those attending the burial.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart. Focus on the meaning, asking Allah to turn the rain into a blessing that facilitates, rather than obstructs, the burial rites. Facing the direction of the rain, or simply raising your hands as you would in any supplication, is appropriate. The key is the earnestness of the supplication during a time of need.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication embodies the prophetic concern for the ease of the community, even during times of hardship like funerals. By asking for gentle, beneficial rain, we are asking for Allah's mercy to manifest in a way that respects the solemnity of the occasion. It reflects the understanding that even natural phenomena can be influenced by our sincere prayers, turning potential difficulty into ease. It's a beautiful reminder of our reliance on Allah for all aspects of our lives, including the weather that affects our most sensitive rituals. The narration describes the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ making a similar supplication during a drought, asking for beneficial rain, highlighting the importance of seeking Allah's help for sustenance and ease through all circumstances.
