اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is recited during times of drought or when the environment is suffering from a lack of cleansing rain, which can be especially pertinent when pollution levels are high. It's a direct plea to Allah for His mercy in the form of beneficial rainfall.
How to Read
This is a straightforward plea, often uttered with raised hands, looking towards the sky, and with a sincere heart. It can be recited individually or collectively, especially during congregational prayers when seeking rain. The repetition emphasizes the urgency and depth of the need. It's also recommended to make sincere repentance (tawbah) before and during the recitation, as sins can be a barrier to Allah's blessings.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking Allah's help for rain is a sign of reliance on Him (tawakkul) and recognition of His power over all creation. Rain is a life-giving mercy from Allah, essential for the environment, agriculture, and sustenance. In the context of pollution, cleansing rain can wash away impurities from the air and land, revitalizing the earth. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to turn to Allah in times of need, and this dua is a beautiful manifestation of that principle.

Narrated Anas: The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the drought, while he was delivering the Friday sermon. He then gestured with his hand towards the sky and said, 'O Allah, send us rain.' Suddenly, there appeared clouds like mountains, and before they were gathered, it rained heavily.
