اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا

O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!

Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna

When to Read

This specific invocation is made by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ during a time of drought, crying out to Allah for relief. While drought relief is the primary context, we can extend the spirit of this dua. Just as rain nourishes the earth, making it fertile and sustaining life, we can turn to Allah with similar earnestness when we seek to nourish and sustain our most precious relationships. Recite this with profound sincerity when you feel the need to replenish the spiritual connection within your marriage or family, or when facing challenges that threaten to dry up your bonds.

How to Read

Raise your hands as you make this dua, mirroring the Prophet's ﷺ supplication. Speak with heartfelt earnestness and a sincere hope for Allah's response. Combine this with making sincere du'a for your spouse, children, and family members, asking Allah to bless, protect, and strengthen your relationships. Reflect on the blessings of rain and how vital it is for life, then apply that reflection to the vital importance of strong family ties. Consider making this dua during the times when rain is expected or requested by the community.

Virtues & Benefits

The direct benefit is seeking Allah's mercy for rain, which is a sign of His compassion and sustenance for His creation. Indirectly, by reflecting on the necessity of rain for growth and life, we are reminded of the essential elements that nurture strong marriages and families: communication, love, patience, and mutual support. This dua, when made with sincerity, can bring about Allah's special mercy upon your family, fostering closeness and resilience, much like a life-giving rain rejuvenates parched land.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man entered the mosque on Friday and the Prophet (peace be upon him) was delivering the sermon. The man said, "O Messenger of Allah, the wealth has been destroyed and the family is hungry; so, supplicate to Allah to give us rain." So, the Prophet (peace be upon him) raised his hands and said, "O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!" Sahih al-Bukhari 1014.
