Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: While the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the Friday sermon, the people asked him to invoke Allah for rain. So the Prophet (ﷺ) invoked Allah for rain. The sky became cloudy and then it rained heavily till the rain water flowed through the streets. It rained on the following Friday again. While the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the Friday sermon, a man stood up and said, 'O Allah's Messenger! Our mounts have perished and our families are destitute; invoke Allah to stop it.' So the Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'O Allah, around us and not on us.' He then gestured with his hand indicating the sky, 'It's raining around us and not on us.' The clouds dispersed and the sun appeared.
