اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is specifically recited during a drought or when rain is desperately needed, particularly when the absence of rain threatens crops, livelihood, and overall well-being, which can indirectly lead to conditions that foster disease. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would make this supplication with earnestness when seeking rain.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a deep sense of need. It is often said with hands raised, a practice of the Prophet ﷺ during his supplications for rain. The repetition emphasizes the urgency and reliance on Allah. It can be recited individually or in congregation.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through dua is a manifestation of our Tawakkul (reliance) on Allah. Beneficial rain nourishes the earth, brings life, and sustains us, thus warding off potential hardships that could lead to disease. In a broader sense, the supplication itself brings us closer to Allah, fulfilling a Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and opens the doors to His mercy and aid. Beneficial rain is a blessing from Allah, and asking for it directly is a way of acknowledging His power and His role as the Sustainer.

Narrated Anas: The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the drought, while he was delivering a sermon (Khutbah). He ﷺ raised his hands and supplicated: 'Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.' He ﷺ then raised his hands and asked for rain, and the sky was overcast with clouds and rain started falling. Narrated Anas: We saw the clouds gathering and then it rained. Sahih al-Bukhari 1014
