Dua for the Elderly: Divine Aid for Fulfilling Trusts and Responsibilities

Old Age & Elderly
Hasan HadithSunan Abu Dawud 5090

اللَّهُمَّ أَدِّ عَنِّي أَمَانَتِي، وَاِقْضِ عَنِّي دَيْنِي، وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي.

O Allah, discharge for me my trusts, and pay for me my debt, and make easy for me my affair.

Allahumma addi 'anni amanati, wa-qdi 'anni dainī, wa yassir li amrī.

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly relevant for the elderly who may feel the weight of accumulated responsibilities, outstanding obligations, or the burden of trusts placed upon them. It's a supplication to seek Allah's assistance in fulfilling these duties, whether they are financial (debts), ethical (trusts given by others), or the broader responsibilities of life as one's strength wanes. Reciting it regularly, especially after obligatory prayers, can bring peace of mind and divine support.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere conviction, raising your hands slightly as is customary during supplication. Understand that 'trusts' (amanah) encompasses more than just material possessions; it includes fulfilling promises, maintaining family ties, upholding religious duties, and acting justly. The 'debt' (dain) can refer to financial obligations as well as spiritual debts, like the debt of gratitude to Allah or the rights of others. Asking Allah to 'make easy the affair' (yassir li amri) is a plea for divine facilitation in all matters, recognizing our own limitations.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for divine assistance in navigating the challenges of life, particularly as one ages. It acknowledges our reliance on Allah for fulfilling the 'amanah' – the trusts placed upon us by Allah, by people, and even by ourselves. By seeking help to discharge debts, we aim for financial and spiritual cleanliness. The request for ease in all affairs acknowledges that even the simplest tasks can become difficult without Allah's blessing, bringing comfort and hope to the elderly facing potential hardships.
