When to Read

This comprehensive dua is excellent to recite upon waking, especially after Fajr prayer, to set a positive and energetic tone for the day. It's also beneficial to read before starting any significant task or endeavor, seeking Allah's blessing for success and acceptance. For our elders, reciting it with sincerity can be a powerful way to invoke Allah's help in feeling renewed and capable, asking for the spiritual and worldly sustenance that fuels a vibrant life.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, raising your hands as you do so, like one asking for something from a generous King. Focus on the meaning of each part of the dua: asking for knowledge that benefits the heart and mind, sustenance that is pure and permissible, and actions that are accepted by Allah. Imagine yourself embodying these qualities as you speak the words. It can be recited once or multiple times, especially during the blessed times like the last third of the night or between the Adhan and Iqamah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses three profound requests that lead to a fulfilling life, regardless of age. 1. **Beneficial Knowledge ('ilman naafi'an):** Knowledge that leads to righteous action and brings one closer to Allah. It keeps the mind sharp and engaged. 2. **Pure Provisions (rizqan tayyiban):** Wealth and sustenance that are lawful and blessed, which support well-being and reduce worries. 3. **Accepted Deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan):** Actions that are performed sincerely for Allah's sake and meet His standards, leading to reward in this life and the next. This is particularly relevant for elders who may feel their capacity for action has diminished, as asking for acceptance encourages the continuation of good deeds, however small. Reciting this dua regularly can bring peace of mind, a sense of purpose, and renewed vigour by aligning one's desires with what Allah loves.
