Dua for Continuing to Serve Allah with Devotion in Advanced Age

Old Age & Elderly
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 4201

O Allah, make all of my deeds righteous, and make them purely for Your sake, and do not let anyone have a share in them.

Allahumma ij'al 'amali kullahu salihan, wa'j'alhu liwajhika khaliṣan, wa la taj'al li'aḥadin feehi naṣeeban

When to Read

This dua is particularly poignant for those in advanced age, as it encapsulates a deep desire to maintain sincerity and devotion to Allah in all actions, even as physical capabilities may wane. It's a perfect supplication to recite during the quiet moments of reflection, after prayers, or at any time one wishes to reaffirm their intention to serve Allah wholeheartedly.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart, visualizing the acceptance of your deeds by Allah. Understand the profound meaning behind each word: the request for righteousness in deeds, the purity of intention (ikhlas) for Allah's pleasure alone, and the safeguarding against any hint of showing off or seeking worldly recognition. Make it a regular part of your supplications, especially as you grow older.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful safeguard against riya' (showing off) and sum'ah (seeking reputation through deeds). By asking Allah to make all deeds righteous and for His sake alone, one seeks the highest level of sincerity. This sincerity is key to the acceptance and reward of deeds, as Allah only accepts that which is done purely for His pleasure. It's a prayer that helps maintain the spiritual vitality needed to continue serving Allah with devotion throughout one's life, especially in old age when the focus often turns more intensely towards the Hereafter.
