Old Age & Elderly
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is particularly powerful when recited after the Fajr (dawn) prayer, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would do. It's a beautiful way to start the day, asking Allah for blessings that support both the mind and the soul, which are interconnected. It can be recited at any time, but this morning supplication carries special merit.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands slightly as you do so. Focus on the meaning of the words and truly ask Allah for these three crucial things. Being mindful and present while reciting is key. Reflect on how beneficial knowledge, pure sustenance, and accepted deeds contribute to a well-lived life, even into old age.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific dua is a general supplication, its components directly address aspects vital for maintaining a sharp mind and purposeful life, especially as we age. Beneficial knowledge ('ilman naafi'an) helps keep the mind active and engaged, preventing stagnation. A goodly provision (rizqan tayyiban) can ease worries and allow for greater focus on spiritual and mental well-being. Acceptable deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan) bring peace of mind and a sense of fulfillment, contributing to emotional and mental clarity. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ made this dua a regular part of his morning routine, indicating its immense importance.
