Dua for Finding Solace in Allah's Decree Amidst Social Isolation

Loneliness & Isolation
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female slave. My forelock is in Your hand. Your decree is inevitable for me. Your judgment concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or that You have taught to anyone from Your creation, or that You have revealed in Your Book, or that You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the Unseen that is with You, to make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sadness, and the banisher of my anxiety.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm al-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabee'a qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jalaa'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to a companion experiencing distress, directly addresses feelings of sadness and anxiety. By seeking refuge in Allah's names and attributes, and by asking for the Qur'an to be a spring for the heart, a light for the chest, and a cure for sorrow and worry, it provides a comprehensive spiritual antidote to loneliness and isolation. It reminds us that the greatest comfort and companionship can be found in our connection with Allah and His Book, even when human interaction is scarce.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah: The Prophet ﷺ said, 'No person suffers from anxiety and grief, and then says: (Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm al-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabee'a qalbi, wa noora sadri, wa jalaa'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.) ...'except that Allah will remove his anxiety and grief and replace them with relief.' It was asked, 'O Messenger of Allah! Should we learn these words?' He said, 'Yes, it is necessary for everyone who hears them to learn them.' (Related by Ahmad and others).
