The Zenith of Supplication: Dua on the Day of Arafah

Hajj & Umrah
Hasan HadithSunan al-Tirmidhi 3577

There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and to Him belongs praise, and He is over all things competent.

La ilaha illallah wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer

When to Read

The Day of Arafah, the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, is a profoundly blessed time. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ declared, 'The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah...' (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3577, classified as Hasan by many scholars). This means we should make this specific dhikr, along with our personal duas, a central focus of our Arafah day. The time encompasses the entire day, from Fajr prayer onwards, especially during the peak hours as the sun starts to decline, mirroring the time the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stood in prayer and made dua on Arafah.

How to Read

This is a powerful dhikr and supplication to be recited with sincerity and conviction. It's beautiful to say this repeatedly throughout the day, especially when you are standing in prayer, sitting, or even walking. The Prophet ﷺ mentioned that whoever says this dhikr one hundred times in a day, it is as if they have freed ten slaves, and one hundred good deeds are recorded for them, and one hundred sins are wiped away, and it is a protection for them against Shaytan on that day, and no one does anything better than what he has done, except for someone who does more than that.' (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3577). Aim to recite it frequently and with a heart that is present, reflecting on the greatness of Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ explicitly stated that the supplication on the Day of Arafah is the best. This particular dhikr, 'La ilaha illallah wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer,' is exceptionally rewarding. Reciting it frequently on this day offers immense spiritual benefits: it earns the reward equivalent to freeing ten slaves, blots out a hundred sins, grants a hundred good deeds, and provides protection from Satan. This practice elevates our connection with Allah, magnifying His oneness and praising Him for His dominion and power.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah. And the best of what I and the prophets before me said is: 'La ilaha illallah wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer.' (There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and to Him belongs praise, and He is over all things competent). And whoever says it in the day, Allah writes for him as a freeing of ten slaves, and wipes from him ten sins, and raises for him ten grades, and it is a protection for him from Shaytan for that day, and it is not surpassed by any deed that anyone does on that day, except for someone who says more than that.'
