اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ حَجًّا مَبْرُورًا، وَسَعْيًا مَشْكُورًا، وَذَنْبًا مَغْفُورًا
O Allah, make it a Hajj accepted, and a striving appreciated, and a sin forgiven.
Allahumma-j'alhu hajjan mabrooran, wa sa'yan mashkooran, wa dhanban maghfooran.
When to Read
This dua can be recited upon starting your Hajj or Umrah journey, or upon entering Makkah or Medina. It’s especially potent when you stand at the Ka’bah, at Mount Arafat, or in the vicinity of significant historical landmarks like Mina, Muzdalifah, or the historical mosques. The aim is to imbue your journey with intention and seek Allah's acceptance of your worship and connection to the profound history unfolding around you.
How to Read
Recite this sincerely with a humble heart, focusing on the meaning. Imagine yourself standing in the footsteps of the Prophets and the companions. The prayer is for Allah to accept your pilgrimage (Hajj/Umrah) as a righteous act, to acknowledge your efforts in performing the rituals, and to forgive your shortcomings. Raise your hands slightly if reciting privately, as is customary for supplication.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates the core aspirations of any pilgrim: seeking an accepted Hajj, recognizing the spiritual exertion involved, and desiring forgiveness for past sins. By connecting with the history of these sacred sites – the places where revelation descended, where Prophets prayed, and where the companions endured hardship for the sake of Allah – your Hajj or Umrah transforms from a mere series of rituals into a deeply personal and spiritual journey. It amplifies the significance of each step, reminding you of the immense sacrifices made and the legacy of faith you are now a part of.

Ibn 'Abbas narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'When you enter Makkah, arrive at the Ka'bah and perform Tawaf, then do not touch the corner except for the two corners of the Yemen. Then you should walk between the two corners. Then you should go out and touch the Black Stone, and then go out towards the place of prostration. Then when you have finished your Tawaf, you should go to the Station of Ibrahim and pray two Rak'ahs. Then you should go to the place of prostration and pray two Rak'ahs. Then you should go to the Black Stone and touch it. Then you should go out to Safa and Marwa, and when you do that, your Tawaf is complete. Then you should pray, O Allah, make it a Hajj Mabroor, a Sa'i Mashkoor, and a Dhanb Maghfoor.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1636 - Note: The specific wording of the dua is found in various narrations related to Hajj etiquette, often attributed to the Prophet's teachings for pilgrims. The version used here is a common and accepted supplication for Hajj/Umrah found in practice).
