Hajj & Umrah
QuranQuran 14:41

رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ

Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers on the Day the judgment is established.

Rabbana-ghfir li wa liwalidayya wa lil-mu'mineena yawma yaqumul-hisab

When to Read

This profound supplication is particularly impactful during Hajj and Umrah, especially when standing at the Ka'bah, in Muzdalifah, or during Tawaf and Sa'i. It's a moment when we are surrounded by the global Ummah and feel a heightened sense of connection to our brothers and sisters in faith, near and far. Making this dua while performing the sacred rites of Hajj or Umrah elevates its significance, as the duas made in these blessed locations and times are considered more likely to be accepted.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a clear intention for the well-being of all believers. Visualize the global Muslim community and feel a genuine concern for their spiritual and worldly welfare. Focus on the Day of Judgment, remembering that our own accountability and the collective fate of the Ummah are intertwined. It's best recited with hands raised (if not in Ihram and appropriate for the location) and with a humble heart, reflecting on the vastness of Allah's mercy and justice.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this ayah from Surah Ibrahim not only seeks forgiveness for ourselves and our immediate families but explicitly includes the entire Ummah of believers. This act embodies the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood central to Islam. By extending our supplication to all Muslims, we are emulating the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ emphasis on collective well-being and mutual support. The duas made during Hajj and Umrah carry immense weight. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of Arafah, and the best of what I and the Prophets before me said is: La ilaha ill-Allah wahdahu la sharika lah...' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3585). While this specific ayah isn't about Arafah, the principle of making abundant duas during Hajj is established. Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also said: 'No servant supplicates for his brother in his absence, but the angel says: And for you the same.' (Sahih Muslim 4912). This highlights the immense reward in praying for others.
