اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ حَجًّا مَبْرُوْرًا وَّسَعْيًا مَشْكُوْرًا
O Allah, make it a blessed Hajj and a deed for which You are thanked.
Allahumma-j'alhu hajjan mabruran wa sa'yan mashkurā
When to Read
This dua is particularly poignant when you first set eyes on the Kaaba, upon entering Makkah with the intention of Umrah or Hajj, or at any point during your pilgrimage when you wish to reconnect with the profound sense of awe and submission it inspires. It's also beautiful to recite even when away from Makkah, asking Allah to grant you the opportunity to experience this sacred sight with the right heart.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity, focusing on the meaning of the words. Imagine yourself standing before the Kaaba, feeling the weight of its significance. Raise your hands as you typically would for supplication. The essence is to ask Allah to accept your pilgrimage as a truly righteous act and to acknowledge the immense blessing of witnessing His House.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is a direct request for Allah's acceptance and blessing upon the journey of Hajj or Umrah. 'Hajjan mabruran' (a blessed Hajj) is one whose reward is Jannah (Paradise), as indicated in a hadith from Sahih al-Bukhari (1521) and Sahih Muslim (1385) where the Prophet ﷺ was asked about the best deeds, and he replied: 'Belief in Allah and His Messenger.' He was then asked: 'What next?' He said: 'Jihad in the cause of Allah.' He was asked again: 'What next?' He said: 'A pilgrimage that is accepted.' The phrase 'wa sa'yan mashkura' (and a deed for which You are thanked) emphasizes seeking Allah's appreciation for the efforts made, further enhancing the spiritual value of the pilgrimage.
