Hajj & Umrah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2708

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَتَجَاوَزْ عَمَّا تَعْلَمُ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْأَعَزُّ الْأَكْرَمُ

My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and overlook what You know. Indeed, You are the Most Mighty, the Most Generous.

Rabbighfir warham wa tawajawaz 'amma ta'lam, innaka antal a'azzul akram

When to Read

This dua is particularly beneficial to recite during the Sa'i, the ritual walking between the hills of Safa and Marwah. The seven circuits can be physically demanding, and reciting this supplication with sincerity can provide both spiritual and physical strength. It's a moment where you are actively emulating the struggles and perseverance of Hajar (peace be upon her), and this dua connects you to that spirit.

How to Read

As you begin or continue your Sa'i, find a moment of focus. You can recite this dua quietly to yourself or softly aloud, especially when you feel a need for a boost of energy or a reminder of Allah's mercy. Remember that the essence of dua is a sincere conversation with your Creator. Focus on the meaning of the words, asking for forgiveness, mercy, and overlooking of sins, acknowledging Allah's supreme power and generosity.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua during Sa'i acknowledges Allah's attributes of Might and Generosity, seeking His forgiveness and mercy during a pivotal act of worship. The Sa'i itself is an act of remembrance and submission. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this comprehensive dua, highlighting the importance of seeking Allah's pardon, mercy, and acceptance of our deeds, all while recognizing His absolute dominion and benevolence. It helps in maintaining a state of mindfulness and reliance on Allah throughout this physically taxing ritual.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say when performing Tawaf around the Ka'bah: 'Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 4522, Sahih Muslim 2688). And during Sa'i, when passing between Safa and Marwah, he would say: 'Our Lord, forgive and have mercy, and overlook what You know. Indeed, You are the Most Mighty, the Most Generous.' (The specific wording for Sa'i is found in other narrations linked to the practice, with the core sentiment of seeking Allah's forgiveness and mercy being paramount during the ritual).
