Dua for Safely Returning to Ihram After Breaking it (Umrah)

Hajj & Umrah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1184

Here I am, O Allah, at Your service. Here I am, O Allah, [at Your service]. Here I am, O Allah, [at Your service]. You have no partner. Here I am, O Allah, [at Your service]. Indeed, all praise, blessings, and sovereignty are Yours. You have no partner.

Labbayka Allahumma labbayk, labbayka la shareeka laka labbayk, innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la shareeka lak.

When to Read

This is the general Talbiyah recited by pilgrims during Hajj and Umrah. If you have unintentionally or intentionally broken your Ihram (e.g., due to illness or needing to change clothes) and are now resuming your pilgrimage, you would typically re-enter a state of Ihram and begin reciting the Talbiyah again. This signifies your renewed intention and commitment to the sacred journey. It's a continuous declaration of your submission to Allah.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, understanding its profound meaning. It's a declaration of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah), acknowledging His sole dominion and the blessings He bestows. As you recite, feel the presence of Allah and the immense privilege of performing Umrah. The Talbiyah is meant to be recited abundantly, especially during the days of Hajj and Umrah, in gatherings and when alone.

Virtues & Benefits

The Talbiyah is the distinctive call of the pilgrims. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'No Muslim calls out 'Labbayk, Allahumma Labbayk' except that the right side of the land and the left side of the land, as far as the eye can see, testify for him.' (Sahih Muslim 1184). It is a powerful expression of devotion, a constant reminder of Allah's greatness, and a declaration of freedom from shirk (polytheism). It reminds the pilgrim of their purpose and strengthens their resolve to complete the pilgrimage with sincerity.

Yahya related to me from Malik, from Nafi' from Salim Abu an-Nadr, the freed slave of Umar ibn Ubaydullah, that he heard Abu Hurayra say: "I performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr. They used to raise their voices with the Talbiyah. I performed Hajj with Uthman. He used to raise his voice with the Talbiyah. I performed Hajj with Ali. He used to raise his voice with the Talbiyah. And I performed Hajj with them, and the Talbiyah was among them. And the Talbiyah was among them." [Malik said about the Talbiyah:] 'Labbayka Allahumma Labbayka, Labbayka, La Shareeka Laka Labbayk, Innal-Hamda Wan-Ni'mata Laka Wal-Mulk, La Shareeka Laka.'
