When to Read

This dua is ideally recited as you prepare for Hajj or Umrah, or at the very beginning of your journey. It’s a powerful invocation to focus your intention on following the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, ensuring your pilgrimage is not just a physical journey but a spiritual one steeped in his example.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a clear intention to emulate the Prophet's ﷺ actions. It's a simple yet profound supplication that sets the tone for the entire pilgrimage. Imagine yourself walking alongside the Prophet ﷺ as you say it, seeking his guidance through Allah's grace.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua helps you internalize the purpose of Hajj and Umrah: to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. It shifts your focus from mere rituals to a conscious effort to perform acts of worship exactly as he taught us. This increases the spiritual value and acceptance of your pilgrimage. By asking Allah to show you the 'manasik' (rites), you are essentially asking to be guided to perform them with the correct understanding and intention, as exemplified by the Prophet ﷺ, making your Hajj/Umrah a true reflection of Islamic tradition.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: I performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and I performed the pilgrimage with Abu Bakr, 'Uthman and 'Ali. None of them prayed the two rak'ahs of Tawaf except in the Mosque. I performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He slaughtered 63 camels with his own hand and distributed the rest by 'Ali. He performed the Tawaf on a camel. He ran between Safa and Marwah. He prayed two rak'ahs at the Maqam. He said: 'O Allah, show me the rites of Hajj.' (This narration is found in Sunan Abi Dawud, with a grading of Hasan by some scholars due to corroborating narrations, though the exact wording and context can vary slightly across collections).
