When to Read

This beautiful dua is specifically for the traveler to recite when leaving their family behind. As you embark on the sacred journey of Hajj or Umrah, the thought of loved ones back home can weigh on your heart. Before you even step out the door, or perhaps during your initial journey, make this a consistent practice. It's a profound way to hand over their care to the One who never falters.

How to Read

Recite this with sincerity and a full heart, visualizing your family being enveloped by Allah's protection. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua as a specific supplication for entrustment. It's not just words; it's an act of 'tawakkul' (reliance on Allah) while taking the necessary outward means. Say it with conviction, knowing that Allah is the ultimate guardian.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a direct Sunnah practice for safeguarding what is entrusted to Allah. When you entrust your family to Him with this specific wording, you are invoking His promise that He does not lose His trusts. It brings immense peace of mind, knowing that even though you are physically distant, your family is under the care of the Most Merciful. It’s a spiritual shield, built on faith and prophetic guidance, providing comfort to both the traveler and those left behind.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah bin Ja'far: We were with Allah's Messenger ﷺ on a journey, and he said to a young man among us: 'O young man, I instruct you with some words: Guard Allah, and He will guard you; guard Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. When you ask, ask Allah; and when you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that if the creation were to unite to benefit you with something, they would not benefit you except with something that Allah had already decreed for you. And if they were to unite to harm you with something, they would not harm you except with something that Allah had already decreed for you. The pens are raised and the pages are dried. And know that what has passed you by was not going to happen to you, and what has happened to you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory is with patience, and relief is with distress, and ease is with hardship.' Then he said: 'O young man, I will teach you some words to say when you are in your home or when you are traveling: 'أَسْتَوْدِعُكُمُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لَا تَضِيعُ وَدَائِعُهُ' (Astawdi'ukumullaha alladhi la tadee'u wada'i'uhu).
