O Allah, make my grave and my house a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and do not make my grave a pit from the pits of Fire. O Allah, do not make for me a house of Fire. O Allah, do not make my grave a festival (of torment).
Allahumma aj'al qabri wa bayti rawdhatam mir riyadil jannah, wa la taj'al qabri hufrotam min hufarin nar, Allahumma la taj'al li baytam minan nar, Allahumma la taj'al qabri 'eedan.
When to Read
This dua is particularly poignant when visiting Madinah, especially when reflecting in or around the Prophet's Mosque (Al-Masjid An-Nabawi). It's a supplication for blessings in one's resting place and home, inspired by the sanctity of Madinah. One might recite it after praying in the Rawdah (the area between the Prophet's grave and his pulpit) or upon leaving the mosque, carrying the spiritual atmosphere of the place with them.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart, visualizing the Prophet's Mosque and its immense spiritual significance. Imagine the blessings of this sacred space extending to your own home and, ultimately, your grave. The recitation should be done with a sense of longing for Jannah and seeking refuge from the Fire.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses profound requests for divine mercy. By asking for the grave to be a 'garden from the gardens of Paradise', one seeks a peaceful and blessed transition into the afterlife, hoping for comfort and ease. The request to not have a 'pit from the pits of Fire' is a plea for salvation from punishment. The phrase 'do not make my grave a festival (of torment)' implies not wanting one's grave to become a place of recurring divine punishment or a site where the torment is observed. Reciting this in Madinah imbues it with the spiritual energy of the place where the Prophet ﷺ is buried and where prayers are multiplied.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Make frequent mention of the cleavingDestroyer of pleasures.' They said: 'What is the Destroyer of pleasures, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Death. For verily, when it comes to one of you, it spoils the enjoyment of your children and your dwelling places. Make it (i.e. death) a guest, as if you are on the *Rawdah* of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and you are enjoying it, and you are not going to leave it except for a while.' And he said: 'O Allah, make my grave and my house a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and do not make my grave a pit from the pits of Fire.'
