Dua for Entering the State of Ihram

Hajj & Umrah
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 1545

Here I am, O Allah, at Your service. Here I am, there is no partner You have. Here I am, indeed all praise, grace, and dominion is Yours. You have no partner.

Labbayka Allahumma labbayk, labbayka la shareeka laka labbayk, innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la shareeka lak.

When to Read

This is the Talbiyah recited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ upon entering the state of Ihram, traditionally said after putting on the Ihram garments and intending to perform Hajj or Umrah. It marks the commencement of this sacred state.

How to Read

Recite this Talbiyah with sincerity and awareness of its meaning. It should be said aloud for men and silently for women. Continue reciting it frequently, especially when ascending heights or descending valleys, and after prayers, until you begin the Tawaf.

Virtues & Benefits

The Talbiyah is a profound declaration of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and a commitment to His servitude. It signifies the pilgrim's complete submission and willingness to embark on a journey of purification and closeness to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'There is no Muslim who says: 'Labbayka Allahumma labbayk' except that the sea, and whatever is beyond it, and the land, and whatever is in it, are cut off to his right and to his left.' (Sahih Muslim 1188). The words themselves encapsulate the essence of Hajj: acknowledging Allah's dominion, His blessings, and dedicating all praise and worship to Him alone.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed Umrah in the year of the Conquest of Makkah. He wore two garments from Yemen. He rode his she-camel and when he reached Dhul-Hulaifah, he said: 'Labbayka Allahumma labbayk, labbayka la shareeka laka labbayk, innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la shareeka lak.' And he repeated it thrice. And he performed Tawaf of the Ka'bah (after returning to Makkah). (Sahih al-Bukhari 1545).
